Langham in Rutland
Neighbourhood Plan
You may already be aware of “Neighbourhood Plans”, but for those to
whom it is a new idea, here is a brief outline, and what it might mean for
Langham:-
National Government is placing renewed emphasis on planning at a local
level because it believes that local people know best what their needs are,
and, how they can best be met. A key component of this new approach to
planning is “The Neighbourhood Plan”. This new type of plan means that
local communities can come together to shape the future of their area.
For more detail see: Campaign to Protect Rural England, and, the National
Association of Local Councils.
It is proposed that the area to be covered by the Langham Neighbourhood
Plan is the entire parish of Langham, an area which has been in existence
for more than 1,000 years. See Ordinance Survey map. A large version of
this map is now framed and hanging in the Ruddle Room of the Village Hall.

Rutland County Council is obliged by law to consult with the public, and others, in order to
ensure that there are no objections and no conflicts of boundaries with other authorities.
The formal consultation period ended on 13th November 2013. More information can be
found on its web-site.
Once the area is confirmed, Government funding will be sought by the Langham
Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, in order to complete the 18/24 month project.
Langham Parish Council underwrote its initial setting-up costs. The current project team
comprises five local people (two of whom are Parish Councillors), numbers will increase as
volunteers come forward broadening expertise and support.

Our village fast contact point, for planning, and other urgent "alerts", is "Langham Lookout",
a newly formed and developing local network.
Our thanks are due to Edith Weston Parish Council, whose village is now well underway to
formulating its Neighbourhood Plan. Thanks are also due to Ron Simpson,
Uppingham Town Council and Uppingham First who provided skilled guidance and
mentoring for the initial phases.
